Dr. Scott Evans is a Professor and Director of the Biostatistics Center, and the Founding Chair of the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics at the Milken Institute School of Public Health of the George Washington University.
Professor Evans is the: Director of the Statistical and Data Management Center for the Antibacterial Resistance Leadership Group (ARLG) funded by NIAID/NIH; the co-PI of the Coordinating Center for the Exercise and Nutrition Interventions to Improve Cancer Treatment-Related Outcomes (ENICTO) in Cancer Survivors Consortium funded by the NCI/NIH, the co-PI of the Data Coordinating Center of the Clamp OR Delay among neonates with Congenital Heart Disease (CORD-CHD) clinical trial funded by the NHLBI/NIH; and the PI of the statistical center for the Combat Trauma Infection Prevention and Management Wartime Preparedness (COMBAT TRAUMA) funded by the Henry Jackson Foundation. He has published more than 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts and four books on clinical trials.
Professor Evans served as the: President of the Society for Clinical Trials (SCT); Guest Editor of a mini-Series on DSMBs for the NEJM Evidence; Editor in Chief of CHANCE; member of an FDA Advisory Committee; co-Chair of the Benefit-Risk Balance for Medicinal Products Working Group of the Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS); member of the American Statistical Associations (ASA’s) Presidential Task Force on p-values and statistical significance, and has served on more than 100 DSMBs. He has served on the Board of Directors for the SCT, ASA, Frontier Science Foundation, and the Accelerating Anticancer Agent Development and Validation (AAADV).
Professor Evans has delivered numerous invited keynote plenary addresses at professional meetings about his research including the: ASA Biopharmaceutical Section Regulatory Industry Workshop (2017 and 2020), Deming Conference on Applied Statistics (2018 and 2025), International Chinese Statistical Association Applied Statistics Symposium (2021), FDA/AdvaMed Medical Device Statistical Issues Conference (2022), Japanese Biometric Society (2009), Midwest Biopharmaceutical Statistics Workshop (2009), UMBC Probability and Statistics Day (2023), Interfarma and ANVISAs’ Multidisciplinary Symposium on Noninferiority Trials (2010), Statistics in Pharmaceutical Conference (2023), Infectious Disease Clinical Research Program (IDCRP) Science Symposium (2025), Japan Society of Clinical Trials and Research (2025), Joint Graybill / WNAR / IMS Conference (2024), Harvard Catalyst Biostatistics Symposium (2024), and the Interdisciplinary Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance and Innovation, IMARI (planned 2027).
Professor Evans is a recipient of the Mosteller Statistician Award, the Zackin Distinguished Collaborative Statistician Award, the Founders Award from the ASA, the ASA’s Statistical Partnerships Among Academe, Industry, and Government (SPAIG) Award “for addressing antibiotic resistance through advancements in clinical trial methodology for bacterial infections”, an elected member of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), and is a Fellow of the ASA, SCT, and the Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA).
